(Continuous Professional Competency – Annual Requirements for PHECC-Registered EMTs)

These EMT CPC packages are tailored to help Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) meet their annual CPC requirements as set out by the Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC). The packages include a combination of theoretical modules, practical skills refreshers, case studies, and scenario-based learning, ensuring that EMTs maintain clinical competence and stay up to date with the latest pre-hospital care practices. Packages are available in flexible formats: full-day sessions, evening modules, or blended online/in-person delivery.

📋  CPC Package Content

(Modules rotate throughout the year – examples include:)

  • CFR Advanced Refresher (incl. AED, OPA/NPA, BVM)
  • Spinal Immobilisation and Trauma Updates
  • Oxygen Therapy and Airway Management (BLS level)
  • Patient Assessment & Communication Scenarios
  • Medication Administration Review (e.g. Glucagon, Naloxone, Salbutamol, Aspirin etc)
  • Major Incident Triage
  • Mental Health and Capacity Awareness in Pre-Hospital Settings
  • Documentation, CPG Updates & Clinical Governance
  • Reflective Practice & Case Study Review


🧠 Learning Outcomes

By the end of each CPC module or package, EMTs will:

  • Maintain clinical knowledge and skills across a range of EMT-level interventions
  • Demonstrate practical competence in CFR Advanced, airway management, trauma care, medication use, and more
  • Understand updates to PHECC Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs)
  • Reflect on clinical scenarios and apply decision-making in line with PHECC standards
  • Fulfil annual CPC evidence requirements for PHECC portfolio submission

📅 Duration

  • Flexible Packages available:
    • Full 18-hour bundles (over 2–3 days)
    • Individual 2–3 hour CPC modules
    • Evening sessions, weekend options, and blended learning formats available

🎓 Certification

  • Participants will receive Safeguard Training Certificates of Completion for each CPC module
  • PHECC-compliant records provided to support annual portfolio requirements
  • Suitable for CPC audit submission and voluntary ambulance organisations

📍 Location Options

  • Public CPC workshops in Dublin (monthly)
  • On-site delivery for voluntary organisations, private ambulance services, and event medical teams
  • Online modules available for theory-based CPC credits


👥 Target Audience

This package is designed specifically for:

  • PHECC-registered EMTs (full-time, part-time, or voluntary)
  • EMTs with CFR Advanced status
  • Staff of private ambulance services, voluntary organisations (e.g., Order of Malta, Civil Defence, Irish Red Cross)
  • EMTs preparing for CPC audit or looking to build their clinical portfolio

⚠️ Note: CPC hours must be logged and retained by the EMT for a 5-year audit cycle. Safeguard Training provides attendance records, certificates, and reflection templates to assist with this.
